Goals and Objectives

The goals and objectives of the Orthopaedic Trauma Fellowship Program are:

  1. Advance the orthopaedic surgeon’s understanding of the treatment of severely injured polytraumatized patients

  2. Understand the multidisciplinary care of polytrauma patients.

  3. Assess the impact of the patient’s injury on their health and well-being in the critical care setting as well as postoperatively.

  4. Understanding the timing of definitive versus damage control fixation of orthopaedic injuries

  5. The fellow will advance their psychomotor skill set through their surgical exposure to complicated fracture non-unions, articular fractures of the upper and lower extremity as well as management of significant pelvic ring disruptions and acetabular fractures.

  6. Recognize the importance of post-operative follow-up, management of complications, and patient outcomes.

  7. Gain independence in the care of all orthopaedic fractures and the ability to develop treatment plans and postoperative care instructions.
