Geriatric Fracture Program Team
CAROL A. LIN, MD
Dr. Lin began the Geriatric Fracture Program with Dr. Sonja Rosen, Kathy Breda, and Dr. Mark Vrahas in 2018 as a pilot program in partnership with the medical center’s hospitalist groups. She is currently an assistant professor of orthopaedic surgery and the director of the geriatric fracture program.
Dr. Lin is a Southern California native, born and raised in Orange County. She completed her undergraduate degrees in biological sciences and English literature at Stanford University. She obtained her medical degree and master’s in clinical research at Washington University in St. Louis during which she spent a year in Malawi studying pediatric malnutrition. Dr. Lin then completed her orthopaedic residency training at the University of California, San Francisco. She was awarded a Young Investigator research grant from the Orthopaedic Research and Education Foundation and completed a research fellowship at the University of Minnesota followed by a clinical fellowship in Orthopaedic Traumatology at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center under the directorship of Donald Wiss, MD.
KATHLEEN M. BREDA, NP, MSN, BBA, AGACNP-BC, ONP-C
Kathleen M. Breda, NP, MSN, BBA, AGACNP-BC, ONP-C is a member of the Orthopaedic Surgery Department at Cedars Sinai Medical Center specializing in gerontology and acute care for orthopaedic patients. Breda is the Associate Director, Clinical Operations for Orthopaedic Clinical Programs and is responsible for the Geriatric Fracture Program and the Bone Health Program.
CORD KIRSHNER RN, MSN, CNL®
Cord Kirshner RN, MSN, CNL® is a Clinical Program Manager for the Geriatric Fracture Program at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. Prior to this position, Cord was a staff nurse in orthopedics and general surgery. He is also a Distinguished Instructor of physiology at UCLA Extension. His clinical practice is an evidence-based, age-friendly approach aimed at improving the quality of care for this vulnerable population, improving their health outcomes, and reducing the overall cost of associated care. He enjoys sailing and baseball.
DARLENE RICARTE, MSN, RN, CMSRN
Darlene Ricarte, MSN, RN, CMSRN is a Clinical Program Manager for the Geriatric Fracture Program at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. She has been an orthopaedic nurse for over 14 years, with experience in nursing leadership and a master’s degree in nursing education. She enjoys sharing geriatric focused education and is dedicated to optimizing care for her patients in an age-friendly health system.
VERANIKA MEJBARYAN LVN II
Veranika Mejbaryan LVN II, is a Transitional Care Coordinator for Orthopedic Department, GFP Program. Before joining Cedars-Sinai, Veranika performed similar role for telemetry, ED, medical-Surgical, and high-risk patients at Adventist Health in Glendale. She joined Cedars-Sinai in 2021, January.
TCC promotes safe passage for patients from their inpatient Orthopedic stay at Cedars-Sinai to ARU/SNF and then to their home setting. TCC is in contact with patients multiple times during their inpatient and outpatient recovery. Veranika collaborates and triages Patient concerns & issues appropriately after each contact with GFP, nursing, Geriatrics, Bone Health, Ortho Clinic, Ambulatory Care Management, Case Management, private MD offices, rehab nursing centers, home health companies, and many other employees at Cedars. She also works closely with the ACM (Ambulatory Care Management) team to address patient questions and concerns about any aspect of their post-fracture care.
CHRISTINE BUENVIAJE, MPH
Christine Buenviaje, MPH is a member of the Orthopaedic Surgery Department at Cedars-Sinai Medical center and acts as the lead program coordinator for the Bone Health Coordination (BHC) program. Christine is responsible for the planning, implementation, supervision, and optimization of the BHC program.
MANDEEP BHINDER, MHA
Mandeep Bhinder, MHA is a member of the Orthopaedic Surgery Department. Mandeep acts as a program coordinator for the Bone Health Program and is responsible for providing patients with proper education regarding bone health and osteoporosis management post-fracture and assists patients by coordinating referrals to in-network bone health specialists.

Eileen Liu provides data analytics support for ongoing quality improvement projects.
